Assessment for learning or formative assessment has become more of a focus for teachers, after a period when test outcomes and summative judgements were dominant. Letting pupils know the aims of a task, by sharing learning objectives and reviewing learning at the end of the lesson, are familiar techniques. Effective marking is also coming under the spotlight, and in this summary of a project which examined marking and feedback in a secondary school, there are some intriguing insights into what teachers write and what pupils recall. The analysis of 1,000 marked scripts, along with pupil interviews, provide information that could help teachers at all phases consider how to make a mark with their marking. |

CERUKplus is the only free database of current education and children’s service research projects in the UK. CERUKplus would like to include practitioner research undertaken as part of masters degree courses or levels 3 + 4 of the Teacher Learning Academy in 2010, and would like to hear from practitioners interested in doing so. We are committed to supporting teachers and lecturers in their research work and building connections between communities of practice. |
