Embedding Research into Practice: Using change projects

This workshop will consider a variety of approaches that research in practice has found successful in improving research use in practice contexts. It will focus on Change Projects that operate through intensive work with a small number of ambitious agencies - testing and evaluating new methods of promoting evidence-informed practice which others may adopt and replicate. research in practice has already completed a number of Change Projects on the following topics: leading evidence-informed practice, the use of research in teams and on the necessary organisational support for the use of research evidence.

A particular focus of the workshop will be on the Change Project approach that we are using in a new project that begins in June 2007 focussed on engaging and re-engaging young people in learning. This is a collaborative project between the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) and research in practice, funded by the Department of Education and Skills (DfES).

research engaged schools
The contribution of research to school improvement has been a matter of considerable debate. It is widely argued that educational practice should be more evidence based, but it is acknowledged that this is not easy to achieve.
