Become a Doctor of Education

The Institute for Policy Studies in Education at London Metropolitan University is welcoming applications for its Doctor of Education programme, ideal for educational professionals who want to undertake a substantial investigation into an area of professional practice in education.

The Doctor of Education (EdD) is an innovative, part-time programme with a strong focus on social justice and social inclusion. It is aimed at those who have 3 or more years' employment experience in an education role (e.g. as teachers, managers, staff developers, careers officers) and who already hold a masters qualification (or equivalent).

The course is designed to meet the needs of busy educational professionals, and includes both a taught element, with six modules covering key areas of educational research and policy, and an individual thesis. It is comparable to the PhD in terms of scale and rigour and takes a minimum of four years to complete.

Formative and summative e-assessment for Key Stages One and Two

i-nfer profiles for learning analysis (plans) are transforming the way teachers can instantly assess, monitor and respond to children’s understanding and progress in Science, Maths and Reading.

For children they are captivating classroom ‘challenges’ to enjoy and demonstrate what they know and can do. i-nfer plan is both formative and summative, and teachers uniquely benefit from time saving automated marking, objective NFER analysis and suggested classroom activity and grouping.

Schools benefit from consistent evidence of a child’s progress with easy to use and exportable reporting.

i-nfer is a new commercial subsidiary of the NFER. i-nfer plan is based on two years development work by a research team at the NFER. Over 35,000 challenges have been taken by children and analysed as part of the development work and 180 schools took the challenges during the final trialling. i-nfer profits from the sales of i-nfer plan will be fed back to NFER and educational research.

CUREE is the Centre for the Use of Research & Evidence in Education. Our core purpose is to translate large-scale and technical research findings and resources into materials that teachers and policy makers can use in their day-to-day work. We search regularly and comprehensively to find the most useful research and constantly use evidence about effective learning processes to create new, engaging and accessible tools.

Come and visit CUREE’s stand to find out more about the Effective Mentoring & Coaching suite of resources. Schools using CUREE’s coaching and mentoring packs find them ‘inspirational’. Rooted in evidence about improving learning these fun resources respond effectively to schools’ practical needs. They will help you enthuse and inspire colleagues and equip them with the skills they need for professional learning - to develop their practice, to enhance their subject expertise – or to tackle practical learning or challenges in their classrooms.

The Training and Development Agency for Schools

The TDA works with schools to develop the skills of the whole school workforce. By supporting and developing standards and professional development opportunities for all, we aim to ensure schools can recruit good quality, well-trained people who will continue to develop and improve their skills to support children's learning.

We work to ensure that the supply and quality of teacher training is sufficient for demand and continue to promote teaching as a career. We're working to ensure that routes into teaching are diverse and accessible to ensure that potential trainees or those returning to teaching are fully prepared for their future career.

We continue to support the modernisation of the school workforce to help schools access the resources they need to remodel their workforce, deploy staff effectively and introduce extended services. With such a diverse range of skills amongst staff members, we aim to ensure that staffing arrangements make the best use of these skills, new roles and opportunities and are fully able to implement change positively.
