In October 2009 the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) held its annual practical research for education conference. The theme of the conference was 'Research as part of continued professional development'.

The conference
This one day conference gave delegates the chance to learn how to embed research into their daily practice without the extra work. The benefits of doing so were also discussed and experiences and questions were shared. If you are considering carrying out your own research, but not sure if you have the time, think again.

Held in a convenient location in central London, we were delighted to, once again, have the support of the NUT, who hosted the event at their headquarters for a second year running. The event featured presentations, discussions and workshops.

The venue
The conference was held at Hamilton House, NUT Headquarters in London. Hamilton House offers quick and easy access to the many sights, delights and attractions of the capital and is a 5 minute walk away from Kings Cross tube station. For more information about the venue please click here.

research engaged schools
The contribution of research to school improvement has been a matter of considerable debate. It is widely argued that educational practice should be more evidence based, but it is acknowledged that this is not easy to achieve.
