Marrie Webster

Presentation 1 - The ups and downs of research engagement

Marrie Webster is a headteacher at Hatfield Peverel Infant School in Essex and is very interested in the potential impact of providing action based research opportunities in schools, as an extra dimension to learning and teaching.

Marrie and her staff had some direct experience of an action based research scenario when they were involved with the NFER's recent Research Engaged Schools Project. Subsequently, Marrie has shared the school's practical, chalk face perspective of its experiences in local and national contexts and seeks to offer a balanced overview for others who may wish to instigate research involvement of a similar kind in their schools.

research engaged schools
The contribution of research to school improvement has been a matter of considerable debate. It is widely argued that educational practice should be more evidence based, but it is acknowledged that this is not easy to achieve.
